Get 23 slaps from the “Universe” (Part 2)

October 22, 2009 at 7:46 am (My List for 23rd Year) (, , )

This one happened very unexpectedly and was actually rather sore lol. I almost cried hehehehe. This is the story of the “OOOOH I got that!” Slap:

It was a Friday night and it was the early stages of a LAN. Now Michael had set up his PS3 in his lounge and we started playing Rock Band 2. I was on bass and he was on the drums. The song we were playing was simple but there were a few resounding notes which are long and you need to get them at the beginning for them to count. Normally I miss these really easy notes but I was on fire hehehe. I got most of them and every time I did I would go OOOOH I got that! It was awesome. I did it many many times and then Michael walked to see who was outside, or so i thought and the next thing I knew I had that hot red feeling on the side of my face. It was so unexpected. hehehe AWESOME. Although the “Universe” slapped me I think I did what i needed to as from then on for the next 2 minutes whenever I got the note I would normally say OOOOH I got that, Michael would say did you get that, you get that now?

Slap Counter:

1. Ag Lekker man Slap.

2.OOOOH I got that! Slap

Witnesses: Michael and George.

Watch 230 unseen Movies (Part 3)

October 12, 2009 at 10:50 am (My List for 23rd Year)

Been a while since i updated this list. I watched 3 new movies. Angels and Demons was good in that I enjoyed the particle accelerator scene in the beginning but was annoyed with the physical inaccuracies found in the movie with regards to anti-matter. I also enjoyed Coraline, that dark eccentric imagination of Tim Burton always brings about a fresh movie. Well worth watching.

Here is the List:

  1. Wing Commander (LAME!!!)
  2. Picture This (Typical Teen movie, was whimsical)
  3. The Kingdom (I HATE POLITICAL MOVIES!!!!!!!)
  4. Underworld: Rise of the Lycans
  5. Surviving Evil
  6. Angels and Demons
  7. Final Destination 4
  8. Coraline

Witnesses: Michael and Mom.

Get 23 slaps from the “universe”

October 12, 2009 at 10:24 am (My List for 23rd Year) ()

So this is an interesting challenge. Those who watch the How i met your Mother series will know what is being referred to here. In the one episode Barney slaps Ted and claims the universe made him do it. Now i need to get the universe to tell someone to slap me. FUN FUN FUN!

Ag Lekker Man Slap:

Finally upset the universe enough to get a slap out of it. This is the story of Ag Lekker Man Slap. It started at work that friday. A colleague i work with and i decided we would start to speak fluent “boksburg” (i apologise for the generalisation to all those from Boksburg). We were gooi-ing all the lekker boksburg around and it was a leka day man. So when the time to go home came i left and went to Michael. When i arrived there i greeted him with the ag hello man. In normal english that would be hello. And thats when it started. The next hour was filled with the most fluent boksburg you have ever heard man. And then, suddenly, out of nowhere came the slap. i looked towards Michael and suddenly i felt this “hot red burning on the side of my face”. I had just been slapped! The universe in that moment possessed Michael and a slap ensued. It was awesome! So only 22 left.

Slap Counter:

1. Ag Lekker man Slap.

Witnesses: Chris(I think) and Michael.

Slippery when Wet

August 5, 2009 at 6:23 am (The Plague of Me) ()

So i think i am making this Blog follow a new direction this August. On a Tuesday i will post a Science in a Nutshell post, Wednesday will see a The Plague of Me post and Thursday…well you will have to wait and see.

The Plague of Me category will have insights into my mind and how it drives me totally up the wall everyday. I will post a few things, hopefully more, on how i see the world and why i am tormented by thought constantly.

Today we have the Slippery when wet sign found in South Africa.

Slippery when wet

Slippery when wet

So you probably wonder what is my problem here. Well let me explain. EVERY single time i drive and i see one of these i get so extremely aggrovated and frustrated. This sign is so scientifically flawed that it makes me want to go rip off every sign of this type in the country. Look at the skid marks or travel path of the indicated vehicle in the sign. It is on a path moving straight and then suddenly it moves instantaneously to the left and continues. While this motion is not an impossibility it is usually only found when acted upon by a sudden impact force in the same direction of movement. In other words: something, perhaps another car hit the side of this one to create this path of travel. But if this is in fact the case then why is the car not broken in the picture. Now i know that many of you are going to say it is just an image that needs to be representative of the meaning and that is fair enough. My arguement is that they could do this in a proper way and make a sign that is not absolutely filled with physical inaccuracy. IT DRIVES ME INSANE! Note i have tried to make sense of the motion but if you look deep enough you will see there is no way a car can move like this unless the axle actually breaks of and rotates one hundred and eighty degrees ARGH! i cant take this anymore!!!!

I suggest we do as the Germans do:

Slippery when wet - Germany style

Slippery when wet - Germany style

Sigh, much much better!! This is more representative of the meaning and to me it is more successful! Also its not a minibus taxi! HAHAHA.

The Casimir Effect

August 4, 2009 at 9:46 am (Science in a Nutshell) ()

Well this is a new dimension to this blog which has recently become very single minded. I am going to add a new type of post which i will categorise as science in a nutshell. These will be exactly that, science in a nutshell. Let me know what you think…

The Casimir Effect.

Well this is a very interesting effect. The universe has many different waves which are made of different wavelengths due to quantum-mechanical reasons. When we have two surfaces which are close to one another we find ourselves in a situation where only wavelengths which are a factor of the distance between the surfaces are found. So in a space of 10cm we will find wavelengths of 2,5,1,10cm etc. We wont find 7cm wavelengths for instance(note the factor needs to result in a whole number of wavelengths forming the factor, ie 5 wavelangths of 2cm and not 1.428 wavelengths of 7cm).  This is because the wavelengths reflect back and forth cancelling each other out. This thus leaves us with only certain wavelengths between the surfaces and an infinite amount around the surfaces. We now have a higher energy density around the surfaces and a lower energy density between the surfaces. This brings about a force which attempts to create equilibrium once more and this leads to the Casimir Effect.
